about

[MACH029]

Representing the next wave of exciting releases coming through on Machine Label for 2016, we’re very proud and excited to offer up the Stamina-Closing EP by Juan Tellez. New to the Machine Label roster we’re very keen to claim Tellez. Brought up on a heavy diet of Jungle and drum 'n bass in New Zealand, before moving to Melbourne, it wasn't long before Juan started to focus on 4x4 beats, and we’re happy to be custodians of his newest musical musings which we’re sure you’ll agree are a damn compelling two piece.

Closing
Drilling through with a truly hypnotic through line, telling a tale of modern techno; subtle, slow burn rhythm that by journeys end is searing it’s way into your senses. Class act bassline pervading the back ground and managing to belie benign warmth with a dark underbelly of growling menace. Then for the touch of depth, a sweeping taste of something synth like, rising like the seasons, like a tide, wet and lapping at the shore. Think 4am and heaving for breath, but better still think 6am and building down to “Closing”.

Stamina
Direct and driving, Stamina comes at you like a train. Massive claps, dual stab hits and 8bit blips. There is a story here: the sound of industry coming to grips with Atari. It rolls out before us like a percussion assembly line; torrid as a workout, sweating like the walls at 3am. It warrants effort, because it is Stamina by name, but the nature here is something else, something unstoppable, with such momentum that it’s already dancing you into next week.

Enter Juan Tellez. Thanks for making the point.
